Good news at the gas pump…

…and it’s supposed to get better!

Kum & Go 2.99Those who remember getting service at a filling station – the sort that was talked about at the Deep Rock station earlier this week – shake their heads at the idea that $3 gasoline is Good News, but it is! And according to the newsroom at AAA of Minnesota, the price of gasoline is going to continue to fall, perhaps by as much as another 20 cents a gallon, before Thanksgiving.

The price of gasoline in some places in Greene County was $2.99 earlier in the week, but the number to the left of the decimal point didn’t change in Jefferson until Saturday.

Also according to AAA, drivers paid the lowest September gas prices since 2010, with the monthly average 13 cents less than last year and 44 cents less expensive than 2012. The national average price per gallon at the end of September was $3.33 a gallon, which was the lowest for Sept. 30 in four years and seven cents less expensive than a year ago.

AAA attributes the lower price to the seasonal switch to the less costly winter-blend gasoline, lower demand with the end of the summer driving season, increased domestic petroleum production, a decrease in the cost of Mid East oil, and finally, Mother Nature has been gentle with Atlantic hurricanes recently. (To what address do we send Mother Nature thank you notes?)
